Kanazawa 21st Century Kogei Festival [Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture]
A Japanese craft festival in the crafts capital of Kanazawa, this month-long explores the potential of kogei craftwork along five areas of focus: “Shuzen Shokusai,” an intersection of cuisine and craft; “Kogei Kairo,” exhibitions in the cultural hub of central Kanazawa; “Kanazawa Mirai Chakai,” examining the future of the tea ceremony with elaborate venues and themes; “Kanazawa Mirai Kogei Bu,” a family-friendly venue for the crafters of tomorrow; and the “Kanazawa Art Space Link,” a collaborative art space project.

KOGEI Art Fair Kanazawa 2020 [Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture]
A “hotel-type” art fair whose purpose is to promote value and create new markets for Japanese craft. Beginning in 2017, this was the first art fair in Japan specializing in kogei craft, featuring artists from the up-and-coming to the world-renown, all presenting fine works of creativity. Due to the impact of the 2109 novel coronavirus pandemic, this year’s 4th annual event will be held online, rather than in its typical format appropriate to hotel stays. By taking advantage of a digital platform, visitors can discover the value of kogei with peace of mind.

KUTANism [Nomi and Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture]
KUTANism is a festival promoting the charm of Kutani porcelain and its production places, cities of Nomi and Komatsu in Ishikawa prefecture. It was first conducted in 2019, and this second time it will be conducted in a form of an online museum. We offer various contents, including an exhibition of artwork and guided tours that will give a taste of a real trip. There is also a number of contents changing every week during the festival period. We hope you enjoy the KUTANism online museum!

Glass Festa [Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture]
Toyama Glass Studio is hosting their public event, the “Autumn Thanksgiving Festival.” Over the two days of this glass market, make glass paperweights and personal Japanese stamps, and watch as professional glass makers vie for the “TSG Cup” by testing the limits of their glass blowing skills. At the Toyama Glass Studio’s shop, receive a 10% discount that only lasts as long as the festival, and enter a raffle for gorgeous pieces by glass artists.

Re: RENEW2020 [Sabae City/Echizen City/Echizen Town, Fukui Prefecture]
An experience-focused fair that connects visitors with creators who “see, know, learn,” Renew is a workshop tour aimed at sustainable community development, and is held in in the cities of Sabae, Echizen, and Echizen-cho in Fukui Prefecture. The public exhibition period will feature studios and workshops from 7 areas of craft manufacturing: Echizen lacquerware, Echizen washi, Echizen hammer-forged knives, Echizen bamboo dressers, Echizen pottery, and handmade eyeglasses. Learn about the creator’s thought process and background while discovering their techniques.
Online content is planned for the 2020 event. Through online shops and videos distribution, you can feel close to the production areas from your home. Additionally, the “TeTeTe All Right Market,” connecting creators, distributors and customers, will be held on the same days. Approximately 15 groups, mostly crafters of small- and medium-sized products, are scheduled to make exhibitions, and about 75 business establishments from the 7 areas of craft manufacturing are scheduled to participate in the 6th annual event, “Re: Renew / 2020.” Please enjoy our event, the largest of its kind in Japan!

Takaoka Craft Ichiba-Machi [Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture]
In 2011, Takaoka’s street market, the Takaoka Craft Ichiba-Machi, began with the desire to create new points of contact with Japanese craftwork and has since become an annual event. Not limited only to kogei products, the market provides an opportunities to interact with craftsmen and residents who support their production, enjoy the historic scenery of the city, and relish in the intersection of Hokuriku’s craft and food cultures.
In consideration of the current situation in the world, the 2020 Takaoka Craft Ichiba-Machi (#Ichiba-Machi TV) will be broadcast online, so that you can enjoy Takaoka at home. This is a unique chance to interact with the people of Takaoka online!

Sennen Mirai Kogei Festival [Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture]
The Sennen Mirai Kogei Festival is an event to connect young people with traditional craftsmanship, kogei products, and the people who create them, in order to make opportunities to pass kogei onto the next generation. In this, the third year of the event, many have been affected by the impact of the novel coronavirus, and so the festival is meant to be an opportunity to connect creators and customers again, hence, “CoNEXTion,” through a hybrid of in-person and online venues. We’ll distribute original videos, but on-demand and streaming live, highlighting production areas and crafters online. We’ll also set up a “CoNEXTion” member’s page, where previous exhibitors can meet to explore production areas and network like never before. Additionally, we’ll broadcast live music performances and talk shows from a special studio at Takefu Knife Village on the days of the festival.
