Purpose of The Collaboration

Morioka Yoshiyuki is the owner of Morioka Shoten, a bookstore that has drawn attention for its unique approach of selling only one book title at a time. Morioka sheds light on each text, illuminating their underpinnings and offering fresh interpretations of contemporary culture. In recent years, his interest has turned to craftsmanship and craft objects. He has directed several craft-related exhibitions. For this collaboration, Morioka worked with Osada Washi to create functional clothing made from washi paper fibers. Osada Washi is a producer of handmade Echizen washi paper that makes large-sized sheets of paper used for fusuma sliding doors and wallpaper. They also create experimental pieces of paper art. Their extensive experience making paper lighting and accessories has led to a large repertoire of original techniques for processing and coloring kozo mulberry, mitsumata, ganpi, and hemp fibers.
