3rd Generation Shoitsu Nishimura
“Kaga Maki-e” is the art of lacquer painting with gold, silver and other powders combined with lacquer as an adhesive for adorning lacquer pieces. Born as the son of the Kaga Maki-e artist Shiotsuki Nishimura, he is now the 3rd-generation Shoitsu. Being now the third generation, apprenticed to Shoba Oba (living national treasure), exhibiting at Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition and received many awards. The 3rd Shoitsu Nishimura now seeks and creates a sense of calmness and new expression in his works, with his known series of classical themes such as Kojiki, Taketori Monogatari, and the Genji Heike. Besides holding numerous exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, he is also the current chairman of Kanazawa Lacquerware association.
