A family run workshop in their third generation, where the parents and children have been dedicating their entire life preserving Maki-e, an ancienttraditional Japanese craft. A small workshop situated in Echizen lacquerware village, a village where these crafts haves been refined over a period of 1,500 years. They have been awarded with Medals of Honor for making a great contribution to the world in continuing the craft. In order to bring Echizen lacquerware to the city, the third generation started a School of Makie in Tokyo. The workshop and exhibition space were renovated to create a space that can be enjoyed by a wider range of people. The art of maki-e is becoming rare in Echizen-Kawada, so why not try it for yourself?
