Musashigawa Kobo, Ltd.
Founded in 1910 (Meiji 43), Musashigawa Kobo is known for “Takaoka lacquerware, Raden work”. An old style and traditional technique in Japanese decorative craft used in the creation of lacquerware woodwork. Material taken from inside of seashells which has beautiful rainbow luster is cut into tiny pieces and is embodied into the surface of the ware. Decorative technique as “RA” refers to the material; shellfish, “DEN” means ornament decoration. At Musashigawa Kobo, craftsmen make cuts no more than 0.1 millimeter in thickness and shells and paste them on lacquer or painted surfaces by hand. The craftsmanship by hands creates beautiful pieces ranging from accessories, box shapes, and to furniture decorations.
