Kanayamachi in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, gives the quaint atmosphere of the Edo period, with town houses lined with cobblestones, a streetscape unchanged for centuries. Otera Kohachiro-shoten is found situated here and opens their doors with café and gallery to welcome their visitors. Since the 1st-generation owner opened a casting factory, it has been engaged in Takaoka copper crafts and presently expanded its business to wholesale and exhibition/sales. Housed in a townhouse built in the late Edo period, the shop carries a wide range of metal crafts from antique pieces to items designed to fit today’s lifestyle.
